A Guide to Choosing Wedding Rings

A marriage proposal one of the most exciting events any of us will ever experience. However, after the proposal has been accepted comes the hard part! Newly engaged couples have many important details to attend to (including keeping their respective mothers in line). If you've recently become engaged you will find yourself planning your ceremony, deciding on your vows, choosing a wedding dress and setting a date for the big day. In addition to all of this you and your fiance' have another important decision ahead of you -- choosing the wedding rings. While the traditional gold band is still very popular for couples, there are lots of other appealing choices.

If you are looking for an alternative to yellow gold you can choose white gold or even platinum. Platinum is the "Cadillac" of the precious metals world and a popular choice for many brides and grooms. Platinum is extremely hard and durable, resistant to wear and scratching, and looks similar to silver or white gold. For decades, platinum has been the choice of engaged couples who desire the best. Another alternative to yellow gold, white gold and platinum is, surprisingly, stainless steel. The stainless steel wedding band is one of the newest trends in the jewelry world. Yet, another hot trend is the fancy wedding band, which might feature diamonds or a special design on the band.

Most couples simply choose wedding bands in a metal that matches the engagement ring. Engagement rings come in yellow gold, white gold, platinum, stainless steel and even silver. There are thousands of different styles out there, but they all have one thing in common and that is they usually feature a solitaire diamond. Diamonds come in many different cuts including round, square, pear-shaped, oval, or even heart shaped. Sometimes, couples will choose a diamond engagement set which includes matching wedding bands. This way everything coordinates.

Shopping for your wedding rings should be done with careful consideration. After all, you and your future spouse will be wearing them from your wedding day forward. Make sure you choose a high quality metal that you love and buy from a reputable jewlewer. Also, make sure the rings fit snugly on the finger without being too tight as you don't want them sliding off your fingers accidently. As an added touch, many couples decide to have their rings engraved with a short inscription or message. This makes a beautiful ring even more special and can be done for a reasonable price by your local jeweler.
